Dress code VIOLATION!

Today, I was informed I am in violation of the company dress code. My "black" nail polish violates the dress code which states " if nail polish is worn, it should be clear or in subtle shades". I was wearing my Fuggen Ugly with Zebra strips mani from my last post. My question is what would you consider "subtle"? Is F@#k of and Dye subtle? Shoot me if you have a suggestion on polish color you think would be subtle and something I should wear.

Today I received nail mail. The nice people a t Soulstice sent me two polishes after I corrected them on one of their Facebook pictures. I already have one hand done. I will post pictures tomorrow after I get some sunlight pictures.

  1. UG this post does not make me happy! Why does your job have to rain on your parade????! Usually clear or subtle shades are boring, boring, and even more boring! I wonder how they would feel about China Glaze Fast Track which is a gorgeous beige nude but has lots of shimmer? Zoya Jules is very similar--nudish but has shimmer. At least you have your toes! I would rock a fantastic color on them to make up for this LAME rule!

    1. I finally get up the nerve to wear polish whenever I feel like it and BAM, the rain on my parade. At least they are not singling out me. Anyone with piercings other than in the ear, have to take them out. I wore Soulstice Kent today. It is holographic, but still darker than they like. If I have to wear light subtle shades, I want there to be some holo to it to; otherwise I might as well not wear polish at all. I have to searh blogs for lighter holo polishes. I know Glitter Gal has some nice ones.

    2. I think a holo is a good idea or at least something with shimmer in it. I REALLY love Zoya Jules for that reason--subtle but with shimmer. Have you thought of getting any spectraflair to make your own holo polishes or a holo topcoat?

    1. When the weather is nice, I wear flip flops to work and put my work shoes on at work. This allows me to show my toes! Next Friday will be Lesbi-Honest with Zebra Stripes.

  3. =/ That's lame. Some awesome subtler shades that are still fun: Butter London All Hail the Queen, Essence Irreplaceable (only a dollar too!), Essie Chinchilly, OPI Tickle My Francey, Zoya Jules, Orly Nite Owl, the new OPI Ballet collection, ChG Pelican Gray, Zoya Cho & Farah, Essie Mochacino, OPI Skull & Glossbones, Essie Marshmallow, BB Couture Pocahontas, Misa Grey Matters, Zoya Harley, RBL Grunge, BB Couture Intake Valve, Sally Hansen Polished Pearl, Lippmann Waking Up in Vegas, Misa Working Hard or Hardly Working, Misa Paint My Nails@Work, Misa Coffee Pick Me Up, Misa Pay Days are Happy Days.... lol. Hope that helps! You could even try getting something like CND Effects, like Gold Sparkle, and topping these neutral colors with that? Sorry your polish choices are being narrowed down for work! :(

  4. I feel your pain. I have had a few jobs where my freedom of nail color choice was restricted and one job where I couldn't wear any polish AT ALL! Not even clear!
I would suggest a nude, but kicked up a notch. Try the CND Effects or something like a sheer grey? Like the new one from OPI called My Pointe Exactly.
If I think of some good "subtle" colors that I think you might like, I will leave another comment!

  5. There are some really nice aEnglands that are light and subtle but holo. I second the suggestion of AHTO; it is a taupe but when you look at it in the sun it is subtly holo. There's always Glitter Gal Light as a Feather-- a white holo.

  6. Yesterday I tried most of my blues on my nails from lightest to darkest. I should wear that to work and ask them which qualifies as "subtle". The only problem with subtle shades, they look softer and more feminine, which is not what i am aiming for.

  7. First, freakin' LOVE Manglaze! As for "subtle", I dealt with this restriction when I was in the military. Neutral shades like beige, taupe, etc. were always okay to wear. Sometimes, I could get by with a light pink or peach, which are probably more feminine. I would think even Fuggin' Ugly would have been okay by their standards minus the stripes. But there are lots of great options that are subtle but not boring. I agree with all of 7bridges' suggestions and hope you find something that works for you!

  8. I am making a polish wheel with colors that I think should be ok. I will bring it to work and let the clinic manager let her choose what would be ok.

  9. I've always liked Sally Hansen's Cafe au Lait for a nude, beige type polish and you can layer a shimmer top coat on top of it. Good luck!

  10. I love your blog it is so nice to see men interested in nail polish. It's such a shame that the people where you work can't accept beautifully painted nails :(
I am a huge fan of OPI come and have a look at my blog.

    1. Thanks Cupcake! I think more men are starting to get interested. There are so many groups on flicker for guys who like polish. I am also part of a group on facebook for guys who like polish. Now that there are 4-5 companies making polish targeted at men, I think it will help guys afraid of being labeled gay or cross dressesr to feel comfortable giving it a try. The first time I took color to my pedicure, it was a bottle of BB Couture for Men.

  12. Meh, as long as they make the women stick to the same rule...but what a boring rule.

    1. They don't enforce it with the women, so I wear what I want.
