Men in Black

Added  a Scorpion to my pinky

I have been playing with brighter colors in order to discover what I like and don't like. Last night I decided to wear black. I got another new nail tech. She did a great job up until it came to polish application. The polish was a black with sime silver shimmer in it. It was made by Sephora. She struggled with the application. The polish would drag instead of spread. I actually felt bad for her, since it was my polish. The real problem is when she asked if iIwanted any nail art. I told her I wanted a silver lightning bolt on each big toe. She looked dumbfounded, so I Googled a picture of lightning bolt nails. She tried twice and kept screwing up. Finally I said forget about the lightning bolts and just do something you think would look nice. So the above picture is what i ended up with. She then bumped my big toe with her elbow and had to fix it after I pointed out it was messed up. It looks fine from a distance, but no macro shots for this pedicure. If I get her again, I won't get any nail art. The upside is my new set of mash plates came in. I will play with them during the next two weeks. I wont feel bad about taking this polish off. We are going to see Men in Black III in a bit; so I polished my nails black. I stamped a Scorpion on my left pinky and the astrological sign for Scorpio on my right pinky. I need to work on getting the image where I want it, but at least the whole image transferred. Glossy black has a whole different feel to it than matte from an image perspective. The glossy black projects a different attitude. The matte black makes me feel more blue collar. The glossy makes more of a statement. Polish is more than just paint, it can be transforming!

    1. If you ever get her next time and she struggles again with a colour, have her add a few drops of thinner to the polish. : )

    2. I have no idea. All I know for sure is that she is in her 40-50's. She just didn't look comfortable doing nail art.

    3. Next time I'll take an OPI that I know is easy to apply. If she struggles with that, I will ask not to get her again. I want to be fair, so I'll give her another chance.

  2. Looks great! Shame about the lightening bolts - maybe sometime in the future!

  3. Too bad about the nail tech. I think if you pay for a pedicure it should come out really good. Hope it goes better next time, but good ideas you had anyway, and the scorpion is cool.

I haven't done black in awhile, but I do like it so might have to give that a go soon and put some pics on my blog.

    1. Not to sound like I'm taking sides, but some polishes are very, very hard to work with. Certain cremes do clump up and thicken and drag-it's due to the pigmenting and the base used. She honestly tried her best but when you have clients in your chair and a polish isn't working, you need to take charge and either thin it out a bit, or suggest an alternate option (a different black). I'd say she was trying very hard to make you happy, that's why she stuck with it. Clients don't always realise that altho' it is "just polish", much like any other service, sometimes variables need to be assessed and met head-on to solve any issues and to ensure the client is happy: Even the most expensive polishes sometimes come clumpy and crappy, it's the way of the Polish World. Time and time again, I've had a bad clumpy bottle and had to switch things up...:)

    2. Erin, That is why I never got annoyed or said anything. I also said, If I get her again I will give her a polish I know is not troublesome. I felt sorry for her because I know how frustrating it is when a polish misbehaves. I also tipped her the same as I would the other girl that is awesome. I am giving her the benefit of a doubt.

  4. Holy crap I missed this post! I LOVE THE SCORPION! I'm so glad you doing some stamping! Sorry about the pedi fiasco. Wouldn't it just be the best world if all the nail polish bloggers lived in a commune where we could easily do each others toes??? LOL!
