Practice makes perfect (eventually!)

OPI Need Sunglasses

BB Couture Bullfighter
As I mentioned before, I bought the new MASH plates to start stamping. My prior two posts were with stamping. Today is all about trying to improve my skills and there is lots of room for improvement! I wanted to work on get more consistent transfers of complete images. Better but not great. The second picture is me struggling to apply this polish and have it look even. After three coats it still looks streaky. Bullfighter is a lot brighter on the nail than in the bottle. Bullfighter is not a polish I will wear out in public on my nails. I would wear it on my toes. I know red is considered a feminine color, but I really like how it looks with the light skin tone of my feet. I wore red last Christmas with some snowflake nail art. I hope to get China Glaze Ruby Pumps and Emerald Sparkle before next Christmas. By then, I should be a pro at stamping, I am looking forward to Halloween and Christmas to do my own holiday themed nails and pedicures. If I get good maybe someone will ask me to do their nails! That would be great fun. I saw a knockoff plate that had what looked like a ton of Hello Kitty images. There is a nurse at work that has everything Hello kitty. Unfortunately, she is married. Therefore, there is no need to order that plate.

I have been entering nail art competitions on Facebook at Countess Nails http://www.facebook.com/pages/Countess-Nails/248163828597427 I have no chance of winning because the other people are so good. My hope is that it will force me to try new things and to get better at creating original art. So far I suck. I wouldn't even submit them but I want to show the Countess I am trying. Sh has prizes for the winners. She is doing it weekly.

  1. Good luck with the stamping! You're already doing better than me, I could never get the polish to transfer to my nails so I gave up and swapped away my plates for polish :P

    1. I had terrible luck with the Konad plates. I am not sure if I got the hang of it or the mash plates transfer better. I should try a Konad plate and see if it was me or the plates.

    2. I had a mix of Konad and Bundle Monster ones, and neither worked well for me. Maybe it was my cheap knock-off stamper. I wish I had been able to master it, stamping is awesome :) Can't wait to see your next attempts!

  2. I'm so jealous you can wear yellow and it looks good on you! yellow is my favorite color and it looks awful on me! I think you are doing a great job stamping and keep it up!

  3. I love how both the yellow and the red on you-- and your stamping looks good. Since the red is a darker shade, I don't think it looks too feminine at all. Too bad it was so streaky!

    1. I know, I'll have to try again and see if it was just me that day or is it a hard polish to get even. It was really frustrating me. I like the OPI brushes better than the ones in my BB Couture.

  4. BB Couture's "Bullfighter" looks interesting. I understand about the red = feminine color perspective, but let's face it -- just the idea of ANY nail polish on guys is enough to blow peoples' minds.

I wore BB Couture's "Sundance" out in public all of last week , which is a very vibrant orange. I've been wearing polish for a few months now (ever since I stopped giving a toss what anyone says or thinks)... But I'm also a high school English teacher, and despite my worries, the students seemed to accept it just fine. I even got a couple of compliments from the girls.

As for my wife, she LOVED the color, but her comment on Monday was: "It's a bit of an adjustment to see you wear something so close in color to what a woman would wear, but I'll just have to choose to adopt the perspective that you always preach, that color really doesn't have a gender." By Friday, she was disappointed to see it go... (I'm now wearing "Grenade" by BB Couture).

So what's the point of my story? Simply that I'd like to encourage you to take the leap and give Bullfighter a try out in public too! Be brave! :-) :-) :-)

    1. If you lookat my post from around Christmas, you will see that I wore red with a pretty snow flake design on it. My daughter isn't big on me wearing red. Last time I wore red, one of her friends moms asked if I was gay. I would like to try something like OPI Big Apple Red sometime.

  5. Led here from Dressed Up Digits and just wanted to say good for you. I love your (and the other Jim's) attitudes! I'd love to see more men wearing polish. And your comment about no point in ordering the Hello Kitty plates cracked me up.
I say wear Bullfighter on your toes (with flip flops/slippers, whichever you call them) this coming week for the Fourth!
