Stamping is only one part of the puzzle

Double stamp fail on my middle finger.

If the background color was a gradient, it would look better.

As you can see, being able to transfer a stamped image to your nail doesn't create awesomeness! Awesome requires expertise in other facets of polish. You need to develop an eye for colors to combine colors as a backdrop to your stamping. You also have to be able to polish your nails neatly (or clean up real good). The part I struggle with is the composition of the design using the right polish colors and combination of stamps to take it from ok to awesome. Even though my efforts are hit and miss, I will continue to do the weekly challenges. They help expand your skills and make you work outside of your comfort zone. My goal is to be able to create designs that wow.  I was proud of last weeks challenge in my last blog post. It turned out the way I envisioned it.

  2. I think you're doing great! I joined the same challenge so I could improve my skills too, I seriously marvel at some of the creativity I see each week! My problem with stamping is that I don't alway transfer the image fully and then I feel like a schmo for wasting all the time I spent on prepping the base colors and dry time. Sometimes I do really well and other times not so much.

    1. I agree, it is frustrating when the stamping doesn't come out good and you have wasted your time doing the base color. Someone suggested to me to put a top coat over the base color. This enables me to sometimes erase a bad stamp without having to redo the base color on the nail, It has worked for me a few times. Sometimes I will have to start over.

  4. You will develop your skills with practice. I stamp almost every manicure, and sometimes I say, ooh, I wonder what this combination would look like. Sometimes it is awesome, sometimes it is a fail, but that's how you find those amazing combinations. My favorite thing lately is a sponge gradient with a stamp on top of it.

    1. Gradients look so awesome stamped. I tried a gradient the other day and it was ok on one nail and started to make the other nail base color smudge. I can assume it wasn't dry enough.
