Evolution Men Polish garnering attention, perhaps changing opinions

You would think they were the first company to market polish for men by the way the are getting so much press. However, they are raising awareness and hopefully making it easier for guys to be accepted with polish. I was surprised that 43% of the men would wear polish in bright colors in a recent poll. The source was the New York Daily News website. The reaction to the introduction of the line is quite varied, depending on the article. I was amazed how closed minded and ignorant so many of the comments were on one of the articles. Yet on another, they were supportive or at least neutral. Of the four or five articles I found, it seems that women are more accepting of polish on men then they used to be.

It would seem that we are chipping away at the negative attitudes toward male polish lovers. It will be nice if it gets to the point where polish is no more a big deal than a ring, bracelet or any other any accessory.

  2. These are good "starter" colors. I think it will help break the ice for some men to start being comfortable with polish.

  3. I have been surfing and found other polls with similar numbers. I want to try some matte polishes on my nails. I saw that even Avon is selling matte polish now. I was thinking about getting them to try. They have a special now, I can get three for $8.95. They have a matte gray, black and I think green.

  4. Chipping away at negative attitudes = good! Chipped nail polish = bad! ;)

Jim, you can get matte topcoat which will make any of your polishes matte. I got mine at Hot Topic, but you can get the matte topcoat at most beauty supply shops. I've even seen Essie Matte topcoat at Target.

  5. I tried one brand of matte top coat and it really didn't look as good as a matte polish. It just kind of made it dull. Maybe it was just that brand.

  6. Jim, I notice you usually wear more subdued colors. Do you ever want to wear bright crazy colors but don't due to the negative reaction? Or are you working your way up to that? Or are you just not attracted to bright wild colors?

  7. @Frankenstyna, I think some of the colors I have worn on my toes have been brighter. You are correct when it comes to nails. Just like I did with wearing polish on my toes, I am trying to let people around me adjust to the fact that I want to wear polish. So I've started with darker more subdued colors. I still am holding on to some reluctance to alienate my self from a lot of people. So the gradual shift is part for others and part for me. An example was when I tried BB Couture Desire. It is a pretty bright red with gold shimmer. I really loved how it looked on my feet, yet I felt a bit self conscience when wearing it in public. In a perfect world, I would wear whatever color struck my fancy. The clothes I wear are mostly shorts, t-shirts and flip-flops. Other than my love of polish, I look pretty ordinary. I don't really fit an stereotypes.

The answer to your question is Yes. I would love to wear some of the awesome colors I see on other blogs. I also hope to work up to wearing anything I want.

  8. I have a brother in-law that can't accept that the ex-football player macho guy he has known for 30 years is wearing polish. Due to nasty comments on facebook, I had to unfriend him and strain my relationship with my sister. They live in a redneck area of TN and don't understand. They think I am either gay or a crossdresser.

  9. I liked essie matte about you at first but over time it developes these little white specks that become noticeable on the nail. I heard matte magic from China Glaze is awsome. Let us know how the Avon ones are if you get. My favorite matte polishes are def from Manglaze.

  10. I did order the gray, black and purple matte polishes. They were on sale. All three for $8.95. When I get them, I will post pictures with a review.

  11. Well, some people need to open their minds and realize that most of the times we wear polish because we like colours. I think I'd be wearing polish even if I was male. It's fun!
