I wish people could be objective.

My oldest and me at graduation

I was looking at my feet and wondered why anyone would think this looks wrong. Why would anyone rather I have rough cracked feet with gnarly nails. I can't image wanting them to be like that ever again. Just because my feet are well taken care of and polished didn't change who I am. I am still a NFL nut. I didn't start watching Ballet and Ice dancing. I have just added something fun to my life. Luckily, most people who know me respect my choice. My daughter doesn't care, except her friends are jealous I am better at painting nails than they are. I now seem drawn to wanting to polish my nails on occasion. This draws more attention than the toes. It seems most people don't look at your feet or just don't care. When I polish my nails, I almost always get at least one comment during the day. After wearing black polish on Halloween to work and not getting any comments, I was surprised yesterday in the lunch room. One of my female coworkers said I had something dark around my eye. I rubbed it with a napkin and didn't see anything. She said it looked like I was wearing makeup. I wondered if she made that jump because of the polish. It must have been some carbon dust from rebuilding a pump motor in the repair room. The carbon dust is messy.  Maybe the fact that I am not a skinny small femine looking guy (as shown in picture above) messes with their heads. It really doesn't matter either way. I have to decide If doing what I like is worth the grief I may get.

  1. Honey, You are an artist, You think in colours, so You don't paint or draw in a paper, You do in your nails, or toe nails...Many people wear tattoos, and I think what the first people what wear it, was pointed with a finger : " Oh, is a criminal...Oh is an seamen"...

Take it easy, and, be water my friend!

  4. I wear my nails painted each day (every day something new). For the first couple of weeks I got comments every day, then every other day, then maybe once a week. Now almost a year later, I still get comments once a week though they are almost always positive. About once a month I get the question of "why do you do that?" to which the stock answer from me is, "I like it, it is fun for me."

  5. Sadly there will always be people out there who are quick to criticize or make negative statements. That shouldn't stop you from doing what you like! The negative judgements says something about the people who make them not about you. Your nails look awesome - never be afraid to be yourself! :-)

  8. I just found your blog through the nailasaurus and I love your swatches. I'm glad to see that you decided to keep going with painting your nails because, they look great! It's really sad that people can be so close-minded and judgmental. I don't see what the big deal is as long as you're doing something that's making you happy and it's not hurting you or anyone else. I mean, it's not like you're tattooing your face, shooting up heroin and robbing banks. :) It's an innocent little bottle of nail polish. It's funny how the gender profiling starts at such a young age without even realizing it. I have a 9 year old son and I think that I've raised him to be very objective, open-minded and very non-judgmental. But, still - even if he comments on how pretty my nail polish is, he'll let me put it on him (occasionally) but, then he'll want to take it off before he goes out for fear of getting made fun of. It makes me sad that other kids would make fun of him for something so innocent.

Anyway .. like I said, I'm glad that you stuck to it and it makes you happy. I'm a HUGE nail polish addict .. ehr, I mean .. collector. ;) And, I'm glad to support your blog. I think you take great swatches. I especially love the ones of you on the job (I assume) when you're holding power drills and carrying giant logs and doing other rugged manly things. They bring a huge smile to my face. So, keep it up! I can't wait to see what you've got coming!! xoxo

PS. I'm not sure if you're still having problems with your nails peeling or if you'll even still read this post but, you should try Nailtiques #2 or 2 Plus. It's great! It makes your nails super strong and they grow beautifully. Check it out!

  9. Kellie, thanks for being open minded. I have tried Nailtiques#2 and didn't have much luck. The problem has gotten better now that I keep my nails polished most of the time. I enjoy polish as much as the next "collector". I have found that women who are really into polish tend to be more supportive. This is ok with me since any women I hope to have a relationship with will need to be into polish. I want this to be something to bring us together, not split us a part.
