Gelish or not to Gelish, that is the question.

I am sooooooo sick of my peeling nails. I am thinking about ordering some Gelish foundation base gel and their Top it off. Maybe a layer of Gel armor might protect them while the messed up part grows out. Is this something worth trying? I have zero problems with my toe nails, they never peel split or tear. If it wasn't for them growing out my pedi would last a long time. So why do my finger nail suck so bad?

  1. Honestly I got great results with OPI Nail Envy Original. I just came across your blog. Awesome btw! And did you notice the new Manglaze color Santorum? lol

    1. I haven't seen a swatch of Santorum. I'm now just trying Fuggen Ugly and Matte is Black.

  2. My favorite nail treatment is Qtica Nail Growth Stimulator, my nails looove it! Nailtiques makes good stuff too and you can find it at Walgreens, which is a plus, but it's a little pricey. Light buffing can really help the peelies. For me having my nails polished 24-7 is helpful too, even if it's just a clear coat that I throw on quickly. Also, keeping up on moisturizing, especially in the winter, really helps! I use hand cream after most times I wash my hands and cuticle balm 3-4 times a day and I've had great results. Good luck!

  3. I tried the Nailtiques first. I have been using the Nail Envy. Neither has seemed to help. I think my nails and cuticles get dried out. Being in Healthcare, I wash my hands dozens of times a day.

  4. I have the same problem, Jim, and I think mine is due to frequently washing my hands and having them in water for long periods of time too. Over Christmas I had some calcium soak off gel extensions on and when I took them off my nails underneath were so much longer and stronger. I am going to try using the gel sealer without the tips to see if it helps prevent my peelies so I'll let you know how I get on x

    1. I hope it works for you. If so, I'll order the stuff off amazon. It would only cost me less to buy everything than to go to the salon once. They charge $45 for Gel nails. I wonder if it would be less since I don't want any extensions? I just don't feel that comfortable asking. I watched some youtube videos and it doesn't look harder than painting your nails.

  5. Oh and a good hand and cuticle cream or oil might be worth trying too, since peels are apparently because of dry dehydrated nails x

  6. I agree. You may do well with some attention to your cuticles in addition to what you decide to do with your nails. I'm in healthcare too (though not full time, I'm an EMT), and I am careful to daily moisturize my cuticle area with both balm and oil. It has made a difference not only with peels but also with hangnails. I hear good things about Rejuvacote as a base coat, and I can also attest that Qtica NNGS is great, though it is a little salty at $20 a bottle.
